FxPro Swap in Pakistan — a Metal Night Charged per 100 Ounces

A swap (or rollover) is the interest debited or credited when you hold a leveraged position overnight.

Overnight interest — the swap — is quoted on a quantity most traders never convert. At FxPro it is charged only when a position stays open past the daily rollover, and it is published per standard lot: 100,000 units on a currency major, 100 troy ounces on gold. That single difference is why the metal rows in a swap table tower over the currency rows — they are not describing the same amount of anything. Divide a metal's nightly figure by its contract size and you get cents an ounce, which is the only form in which it can be set beside a pair. The rate depends on the instrument and on whether you are long or short, and Wednesday nights are charged triple swap to cover the weekend value date. Alternatively use a swap-free (Islamic) account if eligible, which holds no swap. Check the exact long and short swap per instrument inside your platform before holding overnight.

What you are debited (−) or credited (+) per standard lot held past the daily rollover, measured on FxPro’s own MT5 Raw+ feed (with the raw points in brackets). A negative number costs you to hold; a positive one pays you. Triple swap is applied on Wednesday night to cover the weekend value date. Carry / yr is the annualised swap yield (swap × 365 ÷ notional at the live price) — a rough guide to what holding the position costs or earns over a year, shown where we have a live price. XAU/USD (Gold)$89.90$497.30$2,059.00−$5.00−$167.00−$788.00

Total net cost to hold one standard lot over time — the spread plus accumulated swap. A positive figure is what it costs you; a negative one means you come out ahead (positive carry). For example, holding EUR/USD long for a month costs about $276, while a EUR/USD short earns about $48. Based on measured spreads and current swaps — rates vary.

A metal swap is a per-100-ounce number

Every figure in the swap table is quoted per standard lot for one night past the daily rollover, and the size of that lot is what separates the metal rows from the currency rows. One hundred troy ounces of gold carries a cash value in the hundreds of thousands of dollars at recent prices, so its overnight interest is naturally counted in tens of dollars while a currency major is usually counted in single digits. Neither number says anything until it is divided by the contract size.

There is a convenience in gold's specification worth knowing: one point is a cent an ounce and a lot is a hundred ounces, so the swap in points and the swap in dollars per lot come out as the same number. Where the table prints both, they describe one charge — so many cents for every ounce you are holding, for that night.

The one column that compares a metal with a pair

Raw swap dollars cannot be ranked across instruments, because each figure is attached to a different quantity. The annualised carry column exists for exactly that reason: it divides the nightly charge by the position's cash value, which puts a 100-ounce metal lot and a 100,000-unit currency lot on one scale. Read down that column and a metal's cost of carry can be held against a major's directly; read across the cash columns and it cannot.

Use the carry figure to judge whether an instrument suits the direction you have in mind, and the per-ounce figure to decide the size. They answer different questions, and mixing them up is what makes a metal look either alarming or free.

Sizing a metal position around its overnight line

If you plan to hold, do the arithmetic in ounces first and lots second. Decide how many ounces of exposure you want, multiply by the per-ounce nightly figure from the table above, and only then convert to lots for the ticket. That order avoids the common mistake of sizing in lots out of habit and finding the overnight line an order of magnitude away from what currency pairs trained you to expect.

The same conversion works for the metal's other lines. Spread, commission and slippage on gold are all quoted in the same cent-an-ounce point, so once the position is expressed in ounces every cost on the measured conditions page reads off in one unit.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the gold swap so much larger than a currency pair swap at FxPro?
Because it is quoted on a different quantity. One lot of gold is 100 troy ounces of a four-figure metal; one lot of a currency major is 100,000 units. The table publishes the charge per lot in both cases, so divide each figure by its own contract size before setting them side by side.
How do I convert a metal swap into cents an ounce?
Divide the per-lot figure by the contract size, which is 100 for gold. A 0.1-lot position carries a tenth of the per-lot figure, and the smallest 0.01-lot ticket — one ounce — carries a hundredth of it.
Which column compares a metal swap fairly with a currency pair?
The annualised carry column, because it divides the nightly figure by the position's cash value instead of by a lot. That puts a 100-ounce metal position and a 100,000-unit currency position on one scale; read down that column rather than across the cash figures.
Is the gold swap quoted in points or in dollars?
The table prints the cash figure per lot with the raw swap points beside it. On gold the two read the same, because a point on a 100-ounce contract is a cent an ounce and therefore a dollar for the lot — a coincidence of that contract size, not a rule that carries over to other instruments.
What does triple swap mean on a gold position?
Positions held over Wednesday night are charged three times the nightly rate to cover the weekend value date. On a metal it multiplies the per-ounce figure in exactly the same way: three nights of the same cents-an-ounce charge in one debit.
Does the swap scale with my lot size on metals?
Yes. The published rate is per standard lot per night and smaller tickets pay it in proportion — 0.1 lot is ten ounces, 0.01 lot is one ounce.
Is there a swap-free option for gold at FxPro?
Eligible clients can use a swap-free (Islamic) account, which holds no overnight swap interest. Confirm eligibility with FxPro.
Where do I find the swap figures for metals in the platform?
In the instrument's contract specification, where the long and short swap are listed separately per instrument. Check them before holding overnight, as they change with market rates.

What traders report

Swaps draw far less review traffic than spreads do, and the pool yielded exactly two accounts worth quoting here — that scarcity is itself part of the answer. One comes from a trader who held short major pairs for months and says the overnight charge never became a problem; the other from a swing trader who reports avoiding the question altogether on a swap-free Islamic account.

FxPro doesn't charge high swap commissions. I've been holding short positions on gbpusd and eurusd since november.

I'm a swing trader, so for me the spreads is just nice and acceptable with 0 commission, they offer Islamic swap free.
